Sacred+Seen: Queer Lives at the Intersections illuminates the vibrant yet complex stories of Black and Brown queer individuals navigating race, culture, and religion in Compton and South LA.

This exhibition explores how these intersections shape identity, capturing the tension between self-actualization and the expectations often found in our cultures and religions.

Through vibrant works, Sacred+Seen highlights the spaces queer individuals create to honor their full selves, reimagine their spirituality, and build belonging within and beyond their communities.

“This exhibition is about visibility and celebration. Black and Brown queer individuals are often asked to fragment their identities and compartmentalize their feelings to fit in cultural or religious spaces. Sacred+Seen amplifies their voices and demonstrates the extraordinary ways in which they create sacred spaces for themselves. South LA generally, and Compton specifically, has such a rich history of resilience and creativity. Sacred+Seen aims to highlight some of the stories from those who have historically been marginalized, shining a light on and creating a safe space for the intersection of queerness, culture, and spirituality in ways that inspire dialogue, reflection, and (perhaps most importantly) understanding.”
